Why Are We Unaware of Ourselves?⠀⠀

Why do we fail to see in ourselves the things that others see in us? ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
You know what I am talking about. Superficially, we see people heading to work and you look at them and ask yourself, ”do they even own a mirror?” People sit in their cars and do all sorts of things that you do only in private, like things with their noses. People wear some of the oddest combinations of clothes.⠀⠀

To everyone who has been praying and thinking about me the last few days, here’s an update. I had surgery on my hand yesterday. I now have two pins in the back of my hand. They will keep my bone together as it heals. In about six weeks the doc will pull them out and with a little physio, I should be good as new. Thank you all for your well wishes. I am surrounded by amazing people. #brokenbone #brokenhand #healing #surgery

I have been going to the gym now for several years. But let me make something clear, I am not one of those people that show up at a big gym and comfortably set into my own routine. I am not one of those people that just go pick stuff up, put it down, do that a few times, head to a machine, adjust it and go for it, and so on for an hour or so. Nope, not me. Having said that, I can do that, I have on occasion done that, but it would never be my workout of choice.⠀⠀

How Often Do You Exercise Your Mind?⠀⠀
Squats, deadlifts, presses, push ups, pull ups, lunges, curls, sit ups….reading? Exercising is not just for the body, it should also include the mind. Do you actively workout your brain?⠀⠀

I am not talking about doing those quizzes online, “who would you be if you were a cartoon?” “ who is your spirit animal?” “what does your choice in footwear say about your future?” No, not at all. I am also not referring to your level of brilliance in ‘words with friends’. I am also not talking about learning what your boss wants you to learn and know. I am really getting at the fact that;⠀⠀

your brains need to be exercised just like the rest of your busy muscles.⠀⠀

I’m Not Made for Exercise⠀

I have been a pretty active person in all of my life. As a kid, we were always to go play outside, then, I played on almost every team at school. As I got older, I still played on a lot of school teams but my extra time was spent on just a few sports instead of all I could make time for. As an adult, well, it hasn’t mattered what I wanted to do at times, with kids, a dog, house, husband, my activity took a back seat.⠀

Most of us think we like new and different. We want to try something out of the ordinary. We want to get rid of the blah and mundane. That is why we travel, why we browse when we shop, and why we still check out the “new” sections on the music sites and movie websites, why we remodel our homes and watch shows about moving and remodeling our homes. But, it is usually the tried and true where we seem to really actually want to be. Comfort is where we really feel at home and relaxed. But is the tried and true, the ordinary, the expected, the normal, really where we should be?⠀⠀

❓When Was the Last Time You Tried Something New?❓⠀⠀

I decided to take my own advice. I tried something new. I tried tennis.⠀⠀
Ok, so this not earth shattering and it has been done before and millions of people play on a regular basis. But not me. It has been one of those sports that on the TV bores me to tears. I think about it and it doesn’t excite me either. But every time we travel to a resort with multiple activities, there is always a place to eat, drink, swim, and play tennis. I thought about that and then decided to spend a little time watching some people. Normal people, not on the TV, in person, not out to kill their opponent, not worrying about the kill shot, not stressing about the score, but real people and guess what? I started to enjoy what I was watching.⠀⠀
